Aim and Key Features

The aim of Eco-SAVE is to help both individuals and communities.
Key features include:
  • Simple and accessible to enable all households to use.
  • Practical with easy-to-do low-cost ideas for reducing energy, waste and water.
  • Track progress so users can monitor household money, carbon, and resource savings.
  • Community content to promote local sustainability projects and services.
  • Free and ad-free: No cost, no advertising, and no in-app purchases.
The app is designed to appeal to people, no matter their starting point, including those more focused on cost-of-living concerns than climate change.
How It Works for Individuals
The app will inform, enable, and inspire users to take actions that will reduce household environmental impact and cut their bills. To make it easier and attractive for everyone to live more sustainably, the app will:
  • Have a broad range of ideas and tips for sustainable and affordable living, ranging from the simplest everyday actions to the more complex or major.
  • Enable people to be able to track their actions, so they see their accumulated “savings” and benefits (environmental and financial) to encourage and inspire more action.
Whether it’s cutting food and other waste or pollution, lowering energy bills, or reusing items, the aim of Eco-SAVE is to make sustainable living simple and rewarding. The app is being designed to take people on a journey, where sustainability and environmental protection is incorporated into people’s daily life.
How It Works for Communities
We believe the Eco-SAVE can be useful tool for promoting local climate action, sustainability and environmental groups, projects, events, and services - Helping build uptake and support for those groups and projects. These could be repair cafés, waste and home energy initiatives, climate action awareness campaigns and nature/wildlife groups, or many more of the great schemes and groups that do so much in their area to promote protect the planet.

At its most basic Eco-SAVE will be able to provide news of local projects and activities, and as the app develops, include other tools for linking users to initiatives that support their needs, and vice versa.

This ambition will need partnership working the resources to develop a network of co-creators and local contributors, and sometime to achieve a good geographical spread.

By connecting users with local opportunities will help make sustainable living more accessible and more normal. And helping to support local initiatives will help build community resilience and sustainability infrastructure (the groups and projects) – it’s a win-win for the planet and environment.
E-SAVE
Our Journey
The idea for Eco-SAVE came from outreach in disadvantaged communities, where we found a lack of awareness about simple, cost-saving, sustainable actions. This, alongside engaging with over 600 people and 80 groups, informed our plans to develop the app. We began developing the app from scratch in September 2024 with a volunteer recruitment drive to crowdsource all aspects.

Today, thanks to that small, dedicated team of volunteers from across the country, we have released a basic prototype that is being field-tested in two localities with running outreach projects.

Crowdsourcing the app, we believe, is what will make Eco-SAVE different – and stand out from the crowd!
Our Plans and Ambitions
We’re committed to developing Eco-SAVE into a. ever-evolving feature and content-rich app - a powerful tool for climate and environmental action and community resilience, through:
  • Developing modelling systems to verify impact
  • Creating a network of contributors for generic and localised content
  • Building a mobile version
  • Building partnerships to explore and develop ways of enhancing local community climate and environmental action
We want Eco-SAVE to be popular, impactful, and inclusive—reaching people who wouldn’t normally download a “green” app.

  • Organisational help: Assist with volunteer recruitment and support/coordination, or administration and communications.
